2007 Press Coverage

In 2007 Blog Action Day made a huge splash in both online and traditional media. Here are a few of the highlights:

“Organizers of the October 15 U.N.-backed “Blog Action Day” said about 15,800 sites had signed up and were offering ideas to millions of people via blogs, or online diaries, ranging from planting more trees to how to recycle plastics.

“Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future,” according to www.blogactionday.com.

The blogs are a new sign of concern about the environment, reflected in everything from a UN summit about climate change last month to the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to former US Vice President Al Gore and the UN climate panel on Friday.”

“Hundreds of Greek Internet users, including European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas, joined yesterday in the first ever international electronic debate on environmental issues, during which the EU official called for Greece to employ better waste management.

“One reason I like Blog Action day is it demonstrates the viral power of an idea. It shows how far and how fast something can spread via word of mouth, using today’s technologies. I also like it because it shows the vitality and importance of New Media (of which blogging is a major player).”
