A week ago we announced that 28 companies and organizations had decided to throw their weight in support of Blog Action Day 2008.

Each supporting group is adding its voice to our worldwide event on to October 15, when thousands of blogs will address the subject of poverty in front of millions of readers.

Some organizations have committed to give money to poverty relief organizations in connection with Blog Action Day. Others have allowed us to use their resources to spread the word and make this event truly unforgettable.

We thank you, all of you, for making Blog Action Day 2008 a startling power for change in the world.

And now we are thrilled to announce 43 more official supporting organizations, which puts the official tally at 78 … for now. :)

The 43 latest organizations to join Blog Action Day ‘08 (in alphabetical order):

Guess what? We’re not done yet - not by a long shot. We’ve got more companies and organizations coming to us every day, looking for ways to support our event. As they join, we’ll share the news here.

We’re excited to announce that the good folks at aGoodCause are officially supporting Blog Action Day 2008!

aGoodCause allows you to help fight poverty just by shopping. It has just launched globally, in eight countries.

Some information about aGoodCause:

aGoodCause.com is a global partnership between 700 of the world’s most important NGOs - charities like Save the Children, Red Cross, Amnesty International, UNHCR and many others. Together we want to make the world better, when it comes to animal welfare, human rights, fighting poverty, making the climate better etc. And we do this by enabling online shoppers all over the world to support their favourite charity, when they shop online. In more than 5000 online stores in fact! What makes us unique, too, is that users just have to download a small piece of software - afterwards, everything works automatically, and your computer is turned into a charitable tool.

Go check out aGoodCause right now.

And feel free to blog about it! :)

Thanks so much to aGoodCause for being a part of Blog Action Day 2008!

We have an exciting announcement plus a big, big question for all of you!

The KivaB4B Project, a unique partnership between Advanta Bank and Kiva.org, has committed $10,000.00 USD to Blog Action Day 2008 to help us encourage more conversation about and solutions for alleviating poverty.

The KivaB4B Project encourages small business owners, entrepreneurs and independent professionals (like bloggers!) to use their business to do good.

Advanta matches grants made by Kiva cardholders (up to $200/month) and recognizes blogs and other websites that market the Kiva card by making a donation to Kiva in their name (learn about the affiliate program).

We are excited to have these funds in support of Blog Action Day 2008 and look forward to working together with Advanta and KivaB4B to distribute the funds appropriately.

So now our big, big question for you, our 4,500-plus registered participants and thousands of blog and social media followers:

What should we do with the $10,000? :)

Please share your ideas below or email us at central@blogactionday.org.

Thank you to Advanta and KivaB4B for supporting Blog Action Day 2008!

As that magical day approaches, we urge you to follow/befriend/join Blog Action Day 2008 on the following social media, social networking and social activist websites (in alphabetical order):

BlogCatalog - Our special BlogCatalog group.

BlogTalkRadio - We’re doing a huge 12-hour radio show on Blog Action Day itself!

The Point - We have a brand new campaign set up here and will try to convince a major US retailer to donate a percentage of their profits on October 15 to The Global Fund.

WeEarth - Welcome to our village.

YouTube - We have a profile page. Needs to be updated, but it’s there and you can see our 2007 campaign videos for now.

If we can change the subject across the world on October 15, imagine the difference it could make to even just one person in poverty’s shadow.

We’d appreciate any and all suggestions you may have on how we can use all of the above sites to make Blog Action Day as viral and powerful as possible.

We’ll try to update this post over time so you can see what we’re doing on various social media websites to make this event as huge and impactful as possible.

If you know of (or maybe own) another website that Blog Action Day could be on, please let us know!
